Page setup and printer settings are two of the most important aspects to think about when you are getting ready to create your project.
In the pager setup menu you can change the settings to reflect the size of paper you are using in your printer, the default size is 8.5 x 11 inches which is standard printer paper size. If you are using another size all you need to do is type in the correct sizes in the appropriate spots.
You can also set the margins around your work to allow you to print as much of your project on one page as possible to save paper.
When you are printing HO or larger scale or are creating a really large building you can add more pages to your work palette.
If you need to print your work on more than one page the images will print with an overlap that includes a crop mark so that you get a perfect match for all of the pages in your project.
In the page setup menu you will also be able to select how your project is viewed on the palette and subsequently printed on the paper. You have a choice between Portrait, where the long side of the paper is vertical and Landscape where the long side is horizontal. It follows then if you are building a long building using landscape mode is better, but if your building is tall portrait will work best.
Because some of your projects are going to require more than one page you can use the page setup menu to select up to four pages to print your project on. In order for your new project to mesh together properly you have the option to adjust the amount of overlap in your final print. You can cut off the excess when you go to assemble your building; the program prints a crop mark on each section that overlaps to make it easy.
You can use the print setup menu option to choose the printer that you are going to use for your project. This comes in handy if you have more than one printer installed on your computer. There are some printers that have problems printing Model Builder projects in color so there is an option to choose print using alternative color option.
When it comes to printers there are many different models with an equal number of options available on the market. No two of them are alike but for the most part they will all do the job. If you are planning to buy a new printer for your projects there are a few things to look for. You should look carefully at the type of ink that your printer uses, not all inks are the same.
Regular color inks will tend to fade over time and may run or be a little blurry even on photographic paper. There are however, at least for many printers, special inks designed to use for photo works that are designed to last as long as an original printed photo from the old film and negative days. These inks cost a little more but if you are planning to keep your railroad around are worth the investment.
Once you have completed your new model building and are ready to place it on your layout, there is one last step you should take. Once you have allowed the glues to dry and the pastel is in place to hide any edges and seams seal the whole project with Krylon UV protectant matte spray paint. This will not only seal the pastels in but will also help to reduce the amount of fading due to UV light that comes from both the sun and fluorescent light bulbs.
