Tom,
Sorry for such a slow reply, my automatic forum notices from the forum evidently stopped sending me notices.

If you want to make a round corner, start with some thin chipboard. Flex it to see which way the chipboard bends better, typically in one direction it flexes much more than the other direction.
On each wall on either side of the bend glue an additional piece of chipboard to give the main wall sections more rigidity. I think we talk about this in the Project Idea book, found in Help>Project Ideas, the 1st project is a Quonset with a bent roof.

Apply steam to the thinner corner section and slowly bend. Once bent at the proper angle use some open clamps to hold the section at the right angle until the chipboard dries out again. The bend will stay.

Also works for 1/2 round columns, just bend slowly and gently do not rush it.

A nice grade of cardstock also works well for this and you can print your design right on it from your printer, if you need it stronger you can glue 2 peices of the card stock together.

Yes, depending your scale, if you are N or Z say you really do not need anything thicker.
I know someone who saves those endless circulars that come in the mail and uses them to reinforce all his N paper buildings. Then he only needs matte photo paper and junk mail!
