Is their a way I can display a grid for alinging?

thanks for the suggestion. In paper tools there are both a horizontal and vertical line that you might like using for your projects. Scroll over in paper tools to find them.
There is also a align feature. View video #7 on this page: http://evandesignsmodelbuilder.com/tutorials.php for an overview of the align and distribute tools. Caveat: we noticed a few items with version 1.6.13 align/distribute we will have a fix in v1.6.14 due out in a few days.

We are also working on a floating ruler that will re-scale based on the unit scale you are working with. That will be a version 2.0 feature, ETA not set for that.
